About Me

Hey it's Charlotte! I'm a fashion design graduate from Edinburgh uni

I am a graduating fashion student who specialises in womenswear with a textiles focus. My research is a mix of old and new, combining traditional craftsmanship with contemporary fashion design. I like to push innovation through the manufacturing of my garments working with an array of different textiles to influence my design process.

Throughout my time at university I have developed a fascination with textile innovations. Lambs wool is an overlooked material, associated with outdated frumpy garments and muted colours I wanted to turn this false notion on its head. Throughout my graduate collection I have pushed to rework the identity of lambs wool, experimenting with bright colours, patterns and methods such as felting to give the material a new look and feel. Alongside this I worked with merino wool fibres to create my own hand made felt, which I integrated into contemporary silhouettes.

INSPIRATION

Hiding in Plain sight: The Concept

Bold, energetic, fun and luxury. These are the words I would use to describe my graduate collection. The research behind my garments centres around a dreamy facade, and the contradictions within society. I have been massively inspired by celebratory military wear, the difficult nature of the job juxtaposing the grandness of the garments. I hope to combine beautiful tailoring with the romance of billowing Victorian silhouettes and 1920s glamour.

The craftsmanship of millinery is an underpinning theme within manufacture across my collection, I have a primary focus on hand felting and moulding shape into my silhouettes taking traditional processes, executing them in a contemporary fashion. The iconic nature on the 1980s clubbing scene also proved to be an influence when researching. I love the obnoxiously bright colours and lively buzz around this period as it inspires me to be bold and fun in my use of colour.
