THE ART OF ORIGAMI

My final major project was inspired by the delicate practice of origami. Origami requires patience, mindfulness and attention to detail to make the folds respond to each other to create beautiful artefacts. From looking at the rich history of the beginnings of the paper making process and how it has developed into complex origami structures was explored to inspire each garment. Folds have been used to develop technical pattern cutting and hidden layers.

Secondary inspiration has been developed the idea of illusion to make the flat origami pieces come to life by the tricky of the eye. Trompe L'oeil is an art technique that uses realistic imagery to create the optical illusion that the depicted objects exist in three dimensions. Through exploring different techniques of how a simple sewing stitch could be used on the garments to achieve this affect.
