About Me

Min Kim is a Christopherson Award Winner, Contour graduate from DMU

Nudity gives me inspiration. Thinking about how to cover the body and how to reveal them in a seductive and joyful manner are my process of designing. Endless experiments and mistakes give great learnings throughout the whole design process. Contour Fashion has enabled me to define these for final garment designs aided by both technical and aesthetic ways.

Living and studying in a foreign country has trained me to react proactively to educational circumstances. Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Indesign have become great communication tools. Also talking about different perspectives on life and issues happening around the world including sustainability is a critical element of design communication. Womenswear design and fine art background help me to become an expressive lingerie artist. Playing with shapes, textile and colours are a huge part of the design process.

INSPIRATION

What describes ‘self-identity’ in our daily lives?

and what relationship do luxury fashion brands, sustainability, and consumer psychology have in modern society? The fashion industry is closely connected to wearer’s mind, mood and identity. I strongly believed that storytelling behind the brand and a collection is where our industry will be striving through to obtain the most sustainable giving the wearer the emotional attachment upon their purchase and styling which will lead to longevity to increase the clothes life span.

This collection aims to build a branding story through ‘dermaptera’ a word derived from the Greek word ‘derma’ meaning skin and ‘ptera’ meaning wings. A common misconception about ‘Dermaptera’, also known as an earwig, leads to traumatic memories or fright of insects. ‘Dermaptera’ wants to discuss the beauty of everything around you and yourself. This collection would like to give the wearer to feel and learn that every day is special because it is owned by ‘you’ close to the skin.

DETAIL

Iridescent wings that 'dermaptera' hides, beauty is in everyone. Time to let them shine :)

Designing 6 outfits for transeasonal everyday wear collection aimed to launch for 2023 which high end market customers can wear on all occasions such as daily, leisure, party and etc. Its range forms with a lingerie, bodysuit, easily layered garments to be a staple statement wardrobe pieces to give various options for the consumer. Generation Z becoming the new big spending power from the luxury market, therefore I aimed to target this niche market area as a lingerie designer.

Although Lingerie is often thought of as a functional garment that is covered underclothes, I believe that it has enormous power in expressing our personalities and boosting our confidence.
