About Me

Hi! I`m Niha, a Fashion Design graduate from Leeds Art University.

Niharika was born in Nepal and raised in the UK. While growing up she constantly struggled to balance her opposing two cultural identities. As she grows up, she learns to embrace both.

As I felt more comfortable in my own cultural identity, I began to grow interest in streetwear. I loved the idea of creating something elevated and fashionable, however still comfortable.

INSPIRATION

My initial inspiration started with exploring my identity and roots from Nepal.

In this collection I wanted to create something hybrid. Something that I would wear. I wanted to create a cohesive collection that is inspired by Nepal but not costume. A collection that celebrates two ideas co-existing. As I research my heritage, my mum`s traditional Limbuni sari. The traditional half-moon pin. More and more details are unravelled.

The golden ornament once worn by my indigenous ancestors are now transformed into something new. The pattern derived from the Zephyr lily on the traditional gold hair pin is now reimagined into print and implemented in streetwear silhouettes, all throughout the collection. The flower becomes the focal point. It becomes symbolic for my roots and new beginnings in Britain.

The Zephyr lily transforms into a three petal flower into my collection. It symbolises rebirth and new beginnings.
