About Me

HI, I’M TANISHA. A GRADUATE FROM UNIVERSITY OF NORTHAMPTON.

Tanisha has used her time away from home, Ahmedabad, India to reflect upon its beauty and the experiences it has to offer. The handwoven fabric which she has sourced from her city also features throughout her collection.

My message is: “to never forget where your root lies”, says Tanisha. This is the most important essence of your life. Wherever in the world you go you should never forget what gave you the strength to be the person you are today. We also need to know that Family isn’t just important thing it is everything a core of your foundation. The memories created with them must be cherished lifetime.

INSPIRATION

MY INITIAL IDEA STARTED WITH ME BEING HERE IN UK AND MISSING MY FAMILY AND CITY.

I have been living in the city of Ahmedabad since my childhood. In 2018, I took a big step coming to United Kingdom leaving my family behind, who are of foremost importance to me. While doing this project all the memories came rushing back in my mind. It was like I have lived those experiences all over again. It all began with my home where I feel the safest. My FMP then goes on exploring the festivals and places that I used to celebrate or go to with my Family and friends.

The old city of Ahmedabad, which is also India’s first heritage city announced by UNESCO has highly informed me in my design development process. While exploring the places I came across the Gandhi Ashram where Gandhi ji used to live. He started spinning his own yarns during the Swadeshi movement he started against the British rule for making India Independent form importing cloth and promoting local jobs. Also, during my high school we were taught how to spin the own yarns and it intrigued me a lot.

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

I HAVE BLENDED MY TRADITIONAL KHADI FABRIC WITH CONTEMPORARY SILHOUETTES TO CREATE MY DESIGNS.

Ahmedabad, as a city has been developing at a rapid speed. A lot of people are adopting western culture. Therefore, I wanted to blend in the western and traditional culture in my FMP collection which I did through Fabric. The heritage places in my city have informed and influenced the shapes and forms for my designs. My city also comes on the second position when it comes on cotton production. While researching about my city I also got to know the interesting history about the city and how it was built. The place you live in, people you are surrounded with shape you in what you become today and has influence your values. And thus we should never forget where you come from and always let your cultural values guide you in the journey you are walking.

NO MATTER WHERE LIFE TAKES YOU, DON'T FORGET WHERE YOU COME FROM.
