About Me

I am a sustainable Womenswear designer inspired by Haute Couture.

Couture womenswear has always stood out to me due to the aspects of the voluminous and detailed forms, in addition to the way each piece is tailored to a client. Therefore to project myself as a designer within my graduate work, I wanted to incorporate the haute couture aesthetic and my drive for sustainability.

My passion for sustainability takes form in using natural materials such as silks, both 100% pure and plant based or recycled/ second hand fabrics such as tulle. Following this I also create bio degradable plastic using my own recipe, which took me 6 months to adapt the recipe which was suitable to create garments from. Finally, I also use fruit and vegetables to produce natural dyes for both my bio plastic and materials.

INSPIRATION

My final major project takes inspiration from the time period where creativity blossoms.

The innovation of arts and culture during the Italian Renaissance directed my final major project from starting point to my finished collection and portfolio. Within this blossom of the arts culture, I was fascinated by the paintings, architecture, music and fashion between the 14th to 16th century Italy. My initial concept came from 'The Birth of Venus' by Sandro Botticelli. As I researched in depth, I developed a natural flow which led myself through each of these cultures.

This fluidity of research resulted in producing a couture based modern Renaissance collection using sustainable materials.

DETAIL

Natural based materials

By creating bio plastic from scratch and using natural based materials I am able to explore new ways to create garments at a sustainable rate. This excites myself as a designer as beyond my degree I want to progress with my bio plastic and sustainable materials to produce accessories and garments which have not been created before.
