About Me

Hi, I'm Alexander Matheson, a fashion design graduate from AUB

Alexander Matheson is a UK based designer specialising in detailed oriented, functional menswear. Focusing on the interaction between garment and wearer, each piece is designed to facilitate an action.

Growing up in a world inundated with countless digital stimuli, my work has always been inspired by my connection to technology. Using sustainable digital practices to design with purpose and express my creativity, and finding the balance between digital and analogue processes is the key to all my designs. Merging a sporty, minimalist base, clean and sharp in form, with stand out technical features allows for maximum impact. Offering practicality, functionality, and the confidence to DO, my garments are designed to facilitate the wearer in whatever task they face.

INSPIRATION

An alternative perspective on reality

At its core, my graduate collection 'Data Storm' is an amalgamation of both my love for video games, and for the outdoors. I have created a world that offers an alternate perspective on reality, centred on the perpetuation of how we must work to survive. In a futuristic, fictional world, the 'Data Storm' virtual fashion collection is designed to safeguard avatars composed of intricate data streams from hazardous environmental conditions.

These avatars face frequent and perilous 'Data Storms' that possess both physical and digital threats, causing land erosion and avatar damage. The collection acts as a dual protective system, functioning as advanced outerwear and digital firewalls. This innovative design ensures the avatars' protection against data storms, allowing them to fulfil their tasks amidst environmental challenges.

DETAIL

Digital showroom promotional film

Using the digital showroom created by Emma Andrews and myself, I created a promotional film to show off our joint showspace. Aiming to make digital fashion accessible, I made sure that you did not need a VR headset or fancy computer to view the digital garments in their showroom, because while technology in fashion is constantly progressing, in order to for it to be widely consumed, we must ensure it is accessible, marketable, and profitable.

Take every opportunity that comes your way. Everything you do shapes not only your practice, but also your future.
