My areas of expertise are Womenswear with a strong focus on Knitwear and Printed textiles.
I love to draw on references from alternative areas of Design such as Sculpture, Fine Art, Architecture, and furniture, to inform my fashion practice and provide an innovative, unusual approach.
INSPIRATION
Referencing my Grandad as central inspiration, through his love of Modern Art. Particularly artists such as Barbara Hepworth and Ben Nicholson, who are integral in my design aesthetic and colour references. Layering on top of this artistic direction, are the memories and artefacts of his time spent in the RAF.
Stories and heirlooms my Grandad shared with me, became central source pieces. Ergonomic shapes used by Modernist artists, together with authentic RAF plane constructions, informed the fabrications, silhouettes and textile patterns. I developed hand painted digital prints, needle felting, linear ribs and ergonomic plaited cables.
DETAIL
With sustainability in mind, I went through my grandads belongings, and sourced vintage military surplus tents to up-cycle and repurpose into garments and accessories. I kept the original features of the tents, such as the seams and metal hardware, as an echo of my grandfather’s life.
