Anastasia Wells' journey intertwines acting, fashion design, illustration, and painting. Raised in a household brimming with creativity, she began studying fashion at Oxford Brookes University. Eager to explore different modes of expression, she attended the Course Florent acting school as an alumni of the prestigious Classe Libre scholarship programme.
Anastasia discovered a love for illustration and painting amidst her acting pursuits. Even during intense performances, she found solace in sketching and experimenting with various artistic mediums. Returning to academia at Kingston University, Anastasia merged her theatrical and design skills. For her final collection, she embarked on creating three x 5-meter digitally printed art pieces alongside meters of hand-painted and screen printed fabric.
INSPIRATION
The collection surfaced as I was dressing my father after an operation and my sister awaking from a Coma of hellish dreams. The staleness of hospitals inspired me to create nightwear that makes the wearer feel like they are being hugged by their loved ones.Other inspiration is drawn from the enchanting allure of Proust's ‘Remembrance of time past’ and the vibrant soul of post-impressionist masters.
Lautrec's muses come to life in flowing silhouettes and dreamy prints. Each piece whispers secrets of café conversations, and the Bohemian spirit of Parisian nights through the use of screen printing, hand painting, digital media, mixed media and overlaying of images. The fabrics, adorned with colour and ghostly figures, create a delicate tapestry of memories, subtly reviving forgotten dreams with timeless elegance. Allow each garment to envelop you in a gentle embrace of nostalgia and dreams.
DETAIL
Here I have experimented with different ways of printing and hand-painting as well as using masking tape to keep some of the original cloth raw.
