About Me

Hi, I am a Makeup artist who explores beauty differently.

As a makeup activist, my aim is to communicate and use bodily self-expression to question everything. I want to normalize how we can explore human aesthetics.

Focusing on the skin as a medium. The desire is not to seek perfection but to challenge beauty norms. The monopolisation and standardisation of notions of beauty leaves little room for how we can acquire a more intimate understanding of how we see ourselves aesthetically. By starting with the skin, I aim to create a space that reimagines how we can be represented.

INSPIRATION

Skin as a medium

Having the picture of ideal beauty put in public makes people like me question their appearance. Michaela Stark is one of the artists who inspired this project. Her approach to textile materials and a body often exaggerate women's corporeal features, which then go on to narrate the potential abilities of skin through stretching and pressing.

Allowing the skin to adapt to applied forces we can see the potential of this organ. The book that I have created narrates a story through images that are made to capture viewers' attention by exploring each image's meaning. We often forget that skin is constantly in a state of flux, as we grow and develop, experience life changing events and eventually begin the process of ageing. As a make-up designer, these human processes are what places my vision of beauty ideals within the real.

DETAIL

Strech Press and Lines

Using additional layers of skin to recreate and exaggerate the skin was the main key to creating this project. Nylon can be seen as a layer of skin that we can put on and take off. This piece of clothing plays an important role in this project. By applying forces on this layer I have been able to create images that are representing the potential abilities of the skin.

Beauty can be seen in ordinary things.
