About Me

Hi, I'm Charlotte, a Fashion Photographer graduate from Leeds Arts Uni

Born in Switzerland and raised in the UK, Charlotte Troughton is a Fashion Photographer who specialises in Digital photography looking into a range of subjects such as romanticism, girlhood, nostalgia and gender. Her upbringing and large family of eight inspire her work and the personal connection she has to her projects, celebrating intimacy and love.

Studying photography for six years, I always had a preference for high fashion and studio photography, however as my work developed I wanted to bring my upbringing and the experiences I had with sisterhood into my work. Looking at the beauty of friendships and the nostalgia women feel when looking at a photo of them and their childhood friends, I wanted to recreate certain experiences and memories through fashion and styling.

INSPIRATION

My initial inspiration started from looking at the intimacy and love within my own family.

As a woman our girlhood and sisterhood in our youth was such an essential part of growing up, shaping us and forming our initial opinions of what it is like to be a girl. Within our teenage and young adolescent years most of us spent our free time playing outside on bikes or rollerblades and eating sweets from the local corner shop. Highlighting these beautiful and intimate memories was a priority of mine, allowing women and girls to reflect and feel a sense of warmth and love.

Gender and womanhood has always inspired my work, breaking down societal norms and showcasing all women in beautiful and empowering ways. I am drawn to the power of visual storytelling, particularly in exploring the nuances of sisterhood and girlhood. I wanted to use my experiences of girlhood to celebrate the bonds that exist between women, evoking a sense of nostalgia and intimacy, taking my audience on a journey through different spaces and styles that reflect the simplicity of these relationships.

DETAIL

'Spaces with you is an editorial highlighting the beauty of sisterhood within our youth

These series of images showcase six different editorials merged into one, all showcasing sisterhood and the intimacy between two close friends. Touching on femininity, nostalgia and girlhood, this project uses location, styling and posing to reflect the nuances and memories we share from our youth. Through this I wanted to focus on the shared spaces we often spent in with our closest friends growing up and so i made sure to pick six different locations that I resonated with and from personal experience, created the most memories from. By researching into intimacy and observing my sisters' interactions, I was able to pinpoint exactly what I wanted my images to look like- candid and natural. Ultimately, my aim is to transport my audience to a place of nostalgia, to remind them of their own experiences of sisterhood and girlhood, and to leave them with a sense of the enduring power of these relationships.

"Sisterhood is a powerful bond that ties women together through shared experiences, values and friendships. It is an unbreakable connection that creates a support system for women"- Emergewomenmag
