About Me
I’m Delun, a Fashion Textiles Graduate from UWE Bristol
Delun is a Textile print designer, specialising in silk scarf designs for her latest project.
Delun has established a unique creative personality, using her ability to extract a wealth of creative and playful designs from research into Welsh identities. Her strength is her drawing ability using both digital and hand rendered techniques to develop research. In this project she explored traditions and stereotypes within Welsh communities to create a comedic effect through pattern and motifs, maintaining a narrative throughout her collections.
INSPIRATION
Welsh culture, identity, and history of the community Delun grew up in
The Mari Lwyd (Grey Mary) is an 1800s Welsh tradition which is essentially a singing battle between a man disguised under white sackcloth holding up a decorated horse skull vs the people of their local community, held in December to celebrate the new year and to bring hope for new beginnings. Delun reflects this concept through her designs to bring joy to the wearer, by creating playful artworks inspired by the juxtaposing themes of death and joyfulness seen in the tradition.

Rhoswen a Dwynwen
Both scarf collections are inspired by Delun’s research on Welsh identity and culture, using personal photographs from childhood, her memories learning local stories and folklore, and her intensive research into the history of Welsh culture. She brings together these different elements of contemporary and historical references from research into her final designs. This piece is named after Delun's older sisters, and was inspired by a photograph she discovered of them as children wearing Welsh dress costumes for St David’s Day. These photos bring back fond memories of dressing up each year to celebrate being Welsh.
