Im a passionate creative, specialising in menswear design with a keen interest in tailoring. I am inspired by heritage and happenings with a heavy focus on narrative conceptual design. Additionally I was one of the Size? x Homegrown competition winners, celebrating collections based on heritage and my idea of home.
My four years on the fashion design course at Hallam has supplied me with a diverse skillset from tailoring modules to digital fashion software. For my final collection I have delivered authenticity, power and emotion to a once taboo subject surrounding my childhood. The past 12 months has challenged me to refine my design aesthetic and present my creativity to an ever-changing industry, my take on traditional menswear has feminine elements that push boundaries and hypothesise the future of fashion.
INSPIRATION
I share with you a very personal story regarding my relationship with my father and the repercussions this had on my childhood, my aim for this project was to turn a negative into a positive and not let past experiences hinder my future. Exploring themes of abandonment and discomfort generated a deep consideration to fabrication and silhouette, displaying extreme proportion and heavy wools.
I feel my collection speaks to the never ending generation of children with absent parents, an unfortunate trend that so many of us face. A lifetime of emotion, an exhausting reality. I pay homage to my inner child through these four looks and display harsh truths I haven't been able to face until recent. Techniques and details, fabrication and silhouette, all pay a role in telling my story.
DETAIL
During my research process I gathered imagery from discarded furniture on the side of the road. The powerful idea that something once loved with purpose and memories can easily be thrown out and replaced. As a child I resonated with such furniture, so taking inspiration from its piped seams and distressed fabric, texture, holes and years of wear and tear, I channelled these aspects into my collection.
