For my final project at University, I created a wellness brand which aimed to address issues caused by seasonal change. The brand, 'Solstis', is a wellness service aimed at providing consumers with practical and emotional solutions to improve mood. This project involved creating a digital portfolio, which consisted of 76 designed pages made using Adobe InDesign.
INSPIRATION
Across the globe, mental health conditions exist as a key cause of mortality and the number of individuals suffering from such conditions, has increased dramatically since the pandemic. According to NHS statistics: in December 2021, 1.49 million people were in contact with mental health services. The waiting times for treatments are appalling; the 'official' waiting list for any mental health treatment (via the NHS) is 1.6 million people, with 374,000 of these being aged under 18.
These stats are shocking but also not surprising. Whilst the wellness industry is populated by many brands trying to provide products and services to ease the suffering of consumers, they don't even scratch the surface. Solstis was inspired by the event Solstice. The points in every year in which Earth witnesses the longest day (the Summer Solstice), and the shortest day (Winter Solstice). Levels of light, temperature change, etc have a direct impact on wellbeing. Solstis arose out of this.
DETAIL
When researching the wellness industry it became clear that there is a significant lack of brands who are able to cater for the majority's needs. Solstis aims to deliver a personalised service to consumers of all ages, genders, etc.
