About Me

Hi, I'm Iara Cavaleiro, a Fashion Design Graduate from NUA

Iara Cavaleiro is the creator of the brand Cavaleiro, the designer takes inspiration from architecture and from her Portuguese heritage, studying at Norwich University Of Arts allowed her to express herself and her culture into ''Portugalegacy'' a contemporary cultural collection.

Growing up my mother would dress me in the most beautiful pieces of clothing, fur jackets, silk dresses and they looked very luxurious even if they wouldn't cost her much, she always made sure I would look good. I have always wanted to dress differently so I grew up wanting to make garments that I had in my vision and that I knew didn't exist anywhere, so they would be new and unique.

INSPIRATION

My initial inspiration started with engaging with my Couture and Portuguese Culture

I took inspiration for my designs and style from very cultural aspects of Portugal, growing up in Montijo it was the little things that would catch my eye like the ''Azulejos'' tiles that were all around my grandmother's kitchen, flowers that marked specific days in history and architecture from churches and the bold colours that surround Portuguese houses down the streets of Lisbon. In my designs I go mostly for Couture fashion.

Shape and movement have always been my main interests when it came to translating my inspiration into garments. Out of proportion pieces are what I have always had a passion for, pieces that really catch people's attention at first sight. As I have been designing I have gained interest in adding 3D elements into clothing.

Movement Within The Detail

Attention to detail is very important when it comes to fashion, the little aspects of a garment matter. I added movement to my garments using printed fringes featuring the same print as the outfit. The large ruffles used in the floral inspired outfit also created movement.
