About Me

Hi, I am Lucy, a fashion design graduate from Heriot Watt University.

I often use my experiences and interests to inspire my design work. I tend to transfer my ideas, feelings and thoughts to the art form of fashion. This collection comes from my personal place, being inspired by the heritage of my home country, the Czech Republic.

As my graduate project I have created a fashion womenswear collection for Spring/Summer. Made for modern, young, adult women, who appreciate elegant yet comfortable clothing. Purpose of this collection was to create an empowering clothing that could be worn as an armor. My aim was to produce collection with feminine aesthetic keeping it modern and wearable. Designs incorporate minimalistic details paired with interesting silhouette proposals. This collection was designed with sustainability in mind, therefore all the fabrics are sourced locally and are made out of recycled fibers.

INSPIRATION

Being inspired by the heritage of the greatest era of the Czech Republic.

The inspiration for this project comes from the heritage of the era, called the First Republic of the Czech Republic. A period that lasted only for twenty years before it was disrupted by the war. During this period art, architecture and cultural aspects of the society were thriving. The aim of this collection is to carry the heritage of this era to the present and become a reminder of it for the younger generation.

The main inspiration behind this collection is architecture, art and glass industry, all created by famous artists or architects of this era. Transparency of the glass, different textures and the way light passes through the glass was influential for developing this collection. The print and the garment manipulations were inspired by cubist building by architect Josef Gočár. The different levels, geometrical shapes and shades became significant influence in the development process.

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

Fabric manipulation was inspired by the cubist buildings in Prague.

The collection’s color palette contains pastel tones. The idea behind the color palette and combinations comes from pantings painted by František Kupka. I designed a print for my collection that was inspired by my visual analysis of the cubist building by architect Josef Gočár. I researched and developed various shapes and lines of the windows of the Kovařovičova vila. The cubist buildings in Prague inspired the fabric manipulation as well.
