About Me

Hi, I'm Lucy a graduate from WSA, specialising in womenswear

Lucy Dowie is an upcoming designer recognising inclusivity and diversity within the industry. Lucy is keen to make inclusive and adaptive clothing, she has worked in connection with Pangaia to develop universal clothing and she has made size-inclusive collections. Lucy is proud to be announced as one of the Talent of Tomorrow graduates as named by GFW.

During her time at WSA, Lucy worked on several collections and realised that she wanted to tailor her clothing to women of all shapes and sizes with a variety of needs and abilities. Lucy worked hard to ensure her clothes were as universal and inclusive as possible. The industry must continue to adapt and change and Lucy believes that fashion can be an inclusive platform for all. Lucy has been inspired by a variety of muses but ultimately her family and popular culture act as her biggest inspirations. Lucy has shown she has an adaptive mindset and thrives in any work environment successfully.

INSPIRATION

My Brother Jack

"After Darkness comes the light" After Jack passed away aged 23, I wanted to dedicate my final collection to him. Initially researching his birth year looking at popular culture and seasonal trends I felt the story of my collection lifted. Discovery of the Pantone of Year and the importance of the Hot Air Balloon these factors shaped the colour palette and garment silhouette of the collection.

This collection explores how clothing acts as a metaphorical and physical layer of protection, through developing my own quilting style I used my research on Hot Air Balloons to stitch their shape into my garments. This made the quilting feel personal and meaningful and I think it solidifies the collection as a whole.

DETAIL

The Great Barn

The photoshoot of the collection 'Tears from Heaven' was set in a 15th Century converted barn. Located in the gorgeous village of Titchfield, in Hampshire, the barn offered a beautiful setting to shoot within. There were high beam ceilings and exposed brick walls which enabled us lots of different angles and direction in the photoshoot. In working with the photographer, we were able to play with light exposure as well which completely changed the dynamic of the shoot, I think the photos pair very well with the collection.

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.” – Martin Luther King Jr.
