About Me

Hi, I'm Luke, a Fashion Photography Graduate from Bath Spa University

In my photography, I focus on stories of queer men and explore different themes within queer culture. I’ve slowly but surely become a menswear photographer, using my space to connect with my collaborators, to create in a safe space for everyone. I have recently been creating a magazine, which I have named Boycrush, which focuses on all of these themes.

Throughout my time as a photographer, specifically at university as a Fashion Photographer, I have developed my ideas and style to suit my lifestyle. Focusing on queer men and being comfortable in the delivery of my projects has been extremely rewarding. My magazine Boycrush contains many collaborations and I have worked with many models, both professional and starters, who have all been cast by myself. Connecting in the queer community and reflecting this into my magazine has been such an amazing experience which I hope to continue into my photography career.

INSPIRATION

My inspiration stemmed from becoming comfortable as a gay man and wanting to express those feelings.

For my final major project, I wanted to create a personal and vulnerable piece of work. I had previously made an editorial named Boycrush of the same themes, this inspired me to create the work on a larger scale. Inspired by styles from Collier Schorr, Wolfgang Tillmans and Ryan McGinley, I’ve explored different styles of photography under the same theme, to create a diverse and varied piece of work.

Exploring youth culture within the queer community has inspired some of my editorial work included in Boycrush. Connecting with queer men from different backgrounds has made my work much more varied, allowing myself to tell a mixture of stories through my photography, whether they are my own inspirations or bringing other people’s experiences into the images. This will definitely be something I continue to indulge in and explore moving forward.

DETAIL

Connecting with my models to create a safe space to be vulnerable

Casting and Styling are details that can make editorial ideas that much stronger and powerful. Collaborating with models in my work has shown me what to look out for in casting and how to direct new models. Having creative direction for the magazine, I wanted to direct the models to fit the narratives of each editorial I have created. Street and online casting has been my main source for the faces of most of my work, finding interesting faces and people who wouldn’t stereotypically model is something I love including in my work, diversifying the cast and exploring new stories and themes.
