About Me

Hi, I'm Magdalena, a fashion graduate from Northumbria University.

I am a womenswear designer, specializing in pattern cutting and tailoring. I like exploring new and intricate shapes and motifs and moulaging them on the stand to create innovative and creative designs.

I am a maximalist, adopting various techniques, such as meticulous pattern cutting, tailoring, laser cutting, etching techniques and colour blocking. My design aesthetic is a juxtaposition between masculine hints and feminine silhouettes, ultimately creating structured feminine looks. I like to explore versatility in garments through multi-purpose transformative designs, that offer endless possibilities for styling and wearing.

INSPIRATION

BACK TO THE ROOTS is a tribute to the enchanting world of Bulgarian folklore legacy.

In the heart of Eastern Europe lies Bulgaria - a land steeped in history, folklore, and vibrant traditions. My cultural exploration journey took me to the small town of Chiprovtsi – home to the UNESCO-recognized Bulgarian craft of rug weaving, which are the focal point of my graduate collection.Extracting shapes directly from rug work motifs, I explored the significance and symbolism behind the craft and applied it into modern clothing, creating meaningful storytelling designs.

Taking inspiration from 1800s women daily attire, the collection looks into the folk dress, which continues to carry great sentimental and cultural values. Key garments in the collection are reinvented versions of the traditional white shirt, aprons and overdresses, harnesses, coats and tailored jackets.

MY WORK

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

Laser cut motifs, etched textiles, laser cut and engraved acrylic earrings, sunglasses and bags

Inspired by the intricate motifs, found in rug work, I wanted to apply them into clothing and use them as pattern pieces. To keep their sharp and pristine edges, I used a laser to my garments, creating finished raw edges around my cloth. Leather harnesses with buckle trims, belts, laser-cut wool shapes and leather lace are the core of my collection. Referencing traditional ornamental prints, I incorporated the motifs into repeat patterns, which have been laser-etched, instead of printed, disrupting the surface of the textile and adding texture. Leather harnesses with buckle trims, belts, laser-cut wool shapes and leather lace are the core of my collection. A range of laser-cut and etched acrylic earrings, sunglasses and bags complete the collection, giving it a more modern twist.
