About Me

Hi I'm Lan Ăť, a fashion design major from Liverpool John Moore x LCDF

I am a final year fashion design student in Hanoi, Vietnam, and I have been working freelance in beauty and fashion since 2021, specifically in the fields of SFX makeup, art direction, fashion design, and more. I have worked with several local brands and musical artists in VN, and I have goals of promoting eco-friendly, affordable practices through my work.

In fashion, I specialize in Fashion Design and Art Direction, specifically designing streetwear / street style and casual tailoring, with a focus in utilizing old recycled fabrics from old clothing into making new designs. However, I can easily adapt to designing other styles as well, whether it's womenswear, menswear, or androgynous / unisex fashion. Through my work, I strive to designing for a diverse customer demographic (all genders, sizes, ages), utilize eco-friendly practices, and help promote Vietnamese cultures and artists to the international market.

INSPIRATION

My collection is about THE FATES: MOIRAI- 3 figures in Greek Mythology who determine a human's life.

The 3 figures are Clotho - Lachesis - Atropos, and respectively, these 3 control a human's fate: their Birth - Life - Death. Clotho (Birth) spins a yarn roll and extracts a strand - determines when someone is born. Lachesis (Life) extends and measures the length of the strand - determines somebody’s life and age span. Atropos (Death) cuts the end of the strand - determines someone’s death.

For this final B.A collection, I wanted to explore themes of mortality, existentialism, stoicism and nihilism - through the escapist, fantastical lens of Greek Mythology. Taking inspiration from Punk, Goth and Streetwear fashion subcultures and the historical context of the concept, I’ve created an androgynous greyscale street style ready-to-wear fashion collection, 100% made out of recycled old fabrics/ denim from old clothing, with items that can detach / transform into many styling options.

MY WORK

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

This collection was made using 100% old recycled fabrics - from 2ndhand clothing, using patchworking

I gathered old discarded 2ndhand clothing of all kinds (within the greyscale color scheme, mostly grey denim) from friends and family, as well as going to low-cost 2ndhand clothing markets to buy more grey denim clothing. I mainly used the patchworking technique to patch together all garments, creating a beautifully unique textile design and patterns on the clothing, making them wearable but still standout and unique. Using old fabrics is my primary textile design method because I believe it is the most affordable form of sustainable fashion making, and I want to promote it further to the public - who often are intimidated by how seemingly expensive sustainable fashion is.

Quality over Quantity.
