About Me

Men's and womenswear designer from Solent University

Maisie is an aspiring men's and womenswear designer. In her 4 years studying at university its allowed her to grow as a designer while finding her own unique design style. Maisie has built a portfolio of work which includes print design, fabric research, trend research, garment construction, complex pattern cutting, and use of CAD.

During my 3 years studying fashion design, I have found my own unique design identity through the projects i have completed. I have developed a keen interest in technical and functional garments making garments to be worn in multiple ways to adapt to the wearer. During the design process of my final collection, I took time to look into the shapes of parachutes on how to create voluminous shapes , while thinking of how the garments can be adjusted, with hiking elements etc. I feel my final collection reflects my love for adventuring the outdoors and technical streetwear/hiking garments.

INSPIRATION

Inspiration comes from parachutes and hiking with the sky, maps and landscapes inspiring my prints .

This collection reflects the desire for freedom and control. Where functionalities been combined with Voluminous and circular silhouettes giving the wearer a complete sense of freedom within their movements. Inspiration for design came from exploring the outdoors and taking everything in. The sky line gave ideas for prints and landscapes inspired the curved panels in my garments. I combined hiking wear details using reflective piping, carabiners alongside elastic, paracord, straps and buckles.

DETAIL

Head In The Clouds - the sense of freedom and adventure

Over the last few years, have you had an increasing desire to escape and find adventure; do you crave the feeling of freedom and simultaneously want more control? Would you like to parachute through the clouds, be surrounded by sky, far-removed from the world beneath you? In the recent lockdowns, many urbanites discovered a new love of nature and the outdoors. The smell of fresh air, the view of wide-open skies, exploring desolate landscapes, camping, and hiking, and the subsequent feeling of self-sufficiency has never been more appealing. This collection embraces the idea of the natural explorer, the metaphorical skydiver, with garments designed to give the wearer a refreshing sense of freedom, adventure, and self-control. Inspired by the construction and shape of parachutes, the silhouette is voluminous, billowing and circular, allowing for freedom of movement. Drawstring and toggles, elastic, giant buckles, and straps, enable the wearer to adjust and control the shape and fit of garments.

My collection balances freedom and adventure with a sense of self control to be a natural explorer.
