About Me

I’m Lili Zavala, a 22-year-old fashion branding from Mexico

I’m a creative, open-minded, optimistic, and determined person who loves a challenge and is equally comfortable working in a team or competing against others. Growing up in Mexico, I was surrounded by a rich music, art, and history culture that has been a constant source of inspiration.

During my BA, I have worked with several brands in fashion branding and marketing. The main element of my portfolio is my final project: a fashion magazine focused on Mexican culture called "A la Mexa". The concept of my publication aligns with the fashion industry's need to address issues of neo-colonialism and othering within Mexican culture by accommodating fashion cultures that have historically been excluded. My magazine promotes culture and identity among young people, emphasising the importance of our cultural heritage, encouraging localism, and fostering pride and belonging.

INSPIRATION

Collages and art inspired by Mexico's rich artistic tradition through surrealism.

The magazine uses collages and art inspired by Mexico's rich artistic tradition to symbolise culture and expression, fusing them with fashion elements. This fusion occurs within the creative current of surrealism, intending to create original and distinctive images that capture Mexico's past and present and its thriving future in the fashion and lifestyle industry. The masks used in the images serve as a metaphor for how identity is encapsulated and represented in the Mexican fashion industry.

By employing these masks, the publication explores the theme of identity and examines the impact of fashion in shaping and expressing identities within Mexican society. The main objective of this magazine is to enhance and celebrate the cultural heritage of our country, breaking stereotypes and promoting the unique characteristics and creativity that distinguish us.

DETAIL

Fusing Mexican traditions, culture, contemporary style, exploring identity.

A la Mexa is dedicated to connecting young people with emerging Mexican fashion brands while promoting an appreciation for Mexican history and culture. Our mission is to encourage the consumption of local products that represent our identity and cultural diversity, challenging stereotypes and highlighting the authenticity and creativity of Mexican fashion. We aim to fuse Mexico's artistic traditions with contemporary style, breaking barriers and exploring the theme of identity. By doing so, we aim to enhance and celebrate Mexico's cultural heritage, promoting pride and belonging within our community. Additionally, we provide a platform for emerging Mexican brands and young individuals to connect, share ideas, and contribute to the prosperous future of Mexican fashion and lifestyle.

"Cultural identity is an essential contributor to people's well-being. Identifying with a particular culture gives people feelings of belonging and security, providing shared values and aspirations".
