Matthew is an Aberdeen born deisgner who specialises in innovatiove designs and textiles for queer club-wear, over the last four years matthew has been heavily influnced by Queercore and Club kid aethetics that seep in to all their if its campy twists in classic shilouetttes or a safety pin thrown in for good measure this loud visual language is omnipresent
Growing up in the shadow of the highlands allowed them to see the good the bad and the ugly of queer culture in a small city this however allowed them to build a clear deisgin aethetic and strive to achieve it across multiple disiplines if it is fashion publications or bespoke design.
INSPIRATION
In this collection i wanted recreate playing dress up wearing clothes far to big for you, smashing gender codes into smithereens with a playful innocence, just wanting to feel good and express yourself how ever you want with out the pressure of the outside world. I wanted to explore queer culture in a way that was very playful but that allowed me to cover some deeper and more serious issues in the queer community e.g. the sexualisation and fetishisation of queer bodies and pressures of being queer today
I think this collection is especially poinient in the current anti trans climate and where anti lgbtq+ sentiment is high I want this collection to really say “we are still here, still queer and you wont get rid of us”
DETAIL
