About Me
Hello! I'm Milissa, a Fashion Graduate specialising in Menswear.
I am a northern-born fashion designer, which I consider as defining detail within my work. I believe that inspiration starts with a meaningful narrative, and I am drawn to explore my own experiences and background to drive my work.
One of the distinctive themes that I observe is the juxtaposition of "old into new". My appreciation for vintage, worn-in clothing has led me to use imperfections and undesirable features and redefine them. This includes practising sustainable lead design choices that include up-cycling waste fabric.
INSPIRATION
BOEN & BREWED
My concept grew from an urge to uncover more about my dad, who passed away two weeks before I was born. I began by looking at the John Smith Brewery, where he worked. My connection with the brewery is deep within my family history as well as the factory is infamous in my home town, Tadcaster. I take direct inspiration from the industrial fetches of the brewery to develop prints.

Archived Research
Discovering archived imagery from the brewery's long-forgotten magazine publications, I became particularly interested in the process of the coopers, where I found a series of images from 1954 of men creating barrels. The hybrid of formal clothing and dirty aprons inspired my design proses. I printed on partly constructed garments to give the impression of paint and stains caused in a garment's life cycle. This created negative space and imperfection as the fabric dose not lay flat.
