About Me

Hi, I'm Muroj, a fashion design graduate from the Uni of Derby

Muroj is a creative originally from Iraq, born with dwarfism. She specialise in fashion design. Muroj combine her life experience and passion for art and fashion to create a content that celebrates diversity and inclusivity. She want to bring a new vision of what is fashion, change the rules and create a clothing section for little people.

Being a person with dwarfism opened my eyes to many things and made me realize how different my life is and will be. It is something that I want to show in my work- the differences between each of us make us who we are. I have interests in womenswear, fine art and illustration and aim to combine the three to create a strong work to make people aware of little people. Also, to help little people find their needs. I think now more than ever it is important to create work where little people will be seen enough.

INSPIRATION

My inspiration is the reason why I'm doing fashion - the concept is disabled and little people.

The story behind my collection is about a girl who couldn't find what she wanted to wear, so she decided to create it herself and not wait for someone to do it. This story shows what this girl and others like her can do and achieve. Also, to change the prejudices about little people and stop judgments by others. I want to show this collection from a different point of view, the point of view from which I see the world From My Perspective.

People expect to see 'the usual things' and clothes are no different. I want people to change their expectations and see something they aren't used to seeing, soomething unusual. I'm using the idea of optical illusions, creating similar things on my garments. The garments and the whole outfit will make the viewer look again and do a double-take unclear. They will mislead the observer. The viewer won't be able to tell what it is until they see it up close. Not everything you see at first sight is correct.

MY WORK

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

I developed textiles by experimenting with different techniques.

For the textile, I tried many different techniques as print, embroidery, laser cutting, knitting, shima and combining them together. I did different abstract shapes with different sizes to play with – each Textile process complements the other. I worked on layering strips to represent our life, how it's up and down and to show that it is an easy and comfortable path even if there are many challenges under these wavy stripes. For the embroidery, I did dancing ballerinas to show the freedom of movement and to translate my feelings. As a print, I illustrated figures and illustrated the faces of the people I know and love. To spread more information about little people but in a creative way, I did knit where I have literally answered the questions people usually ask.
