About Me

My culture and heritage are a vital part of what who I am

My culture has always been a driving factor in my life and in my projects. I grew up in Nigeria and ever since I came to Europe I have been exposed to a multitude of cultures and people. I am grateful to these experiences and now I have a chance to show mine to the world through my fashion projects.

I have always been fascinated by Japanese culture. The clothing, festivals, food, infrastructure and the overall atmosphere has influenced me so much I decided to include it as one of the driving factors of my research.

INSPIRATION

Chrysanthemum Flowers

The sweet chrysanthemum flowers from East Asia was the main inspiration, it gave birth to the idea of the deep red flower that is embedded throughout the whole collection. Moreover, it was vital to the developments of the wide layered silhouettes and accessories. The silhouette was also inspired by traditional Japanese garments, such as the kimono.

Nigerian festivals have a deep focus on the clothing worn in the festival, unique silhouettes and intricate designs from these festive garments have been another source of inspiration. Pan-African art inspired the colour, print and embroidered direction, helping me exploring beautiful and catchy tones that fit with my African cultural values of the look and the extended collection.

DETAIL

Flowers and Folds - Couture Pleats

The details in the collection have all been inspired by a feature of the research. The chrysanthemum flower and its layers of petals inspired the pleats and folds. The embroidery was inspired by Pan African Art. The sleeve straps were an inspiration from the competitors. Each detail and design choice has been taken from Japanese or Nigerian culture, and through these being merged, it has created the Chrysanthemum collection.

"SOMETHING CANNOT BE CREATED FROM NOTHING. TO SUCCEED THERE MUST BE SACRIFICE. I SACRIFICED TIME AND EFFORT, LOOK AT WHERE THAT GOT ME NOW. JUST IMAGINE WHERE IT COULD GET YOU."
