I’m finishing at UWE as a Creative Director, Ceramicist, Creative Marketer. I am an image maker who enjoys post-production and styling. I’m a cut, paste and stick kind of girl. I love to give images new meanings as well as experimenting with how far I can push my eclectic style.
I am a forward thinking image maker and marketer using my personal ecelectic style to strategically craft brand images, combining relevant market and consumer analysis to produce creative innovative solutions to conceptialise and execute all my work. My practice based degree has supported me in developing relevant skills in a fast-paced marketing environment, whilst giving me creative freedom to explore my own craft of ceramics.
INSPIRATION
People love their dogs, as do I, and I wanted to create something that was personal and experimental - something that hasn’t been seen before that made you question why as a society there is this adoration. From my extensive research into current and future trends it showed me that for Our Cherub, it is clear there is an opportunity to capitalise on the growing market for maximalist craft with its connections to sustainability and longevity.
With that being at the forefront of my designs I created ceramic handbags in the shape of various dog breeds bringing the core value of individuality to the promotion of the products. Our Cherub is a series of 5 designs - a dalmatian, a sausage dog, a poodle, a whippet and a pug. Purchasing is on a made to order basis with there being an option for a commission so customers can replicate their own pet adding a further sentimental value - a handbag that is precious, humorous and glamorous.
DETAIL
My work is all about cutting, sticking and reshaping. I like to give work new meanings, being bold and that was how I made my pooches. Using a traditional method of hand building with stoneware clay I took section by section, taking the time to air dry to go leather hard, hand painting and glazing - then having to go into the kiln twice. I haven given ceramics a modern interpretation. Apologies for the bad quality of some images, please see my website for better.
