Pippa Trimmer is a Womenswear designer with a strong design focus in outerwear. Inspired by British Punk heritage in combination with traditional fabrics, she developed an outerwear based collection offering considered, high quality garments for the consumer who appreciates both quality and a modern take on tradition.
British culture is unique in every way from music, fashion and diversity of people. I find it inspiring to look through my heritage and take inspiration from the rebelliousness of British culture during the Punk era. My design aesthetic draws on the rebellion of Punk and the use of traditional fabrics juxtaposing with bold silhouettes created through outerwear garments.
INSPIRATION
The initial inspiration for this graduate collection came from British Punk culture in the 70's and the influence of The Sex Pistols, Jonny Rotten. Issues and challenges exhibited in the modern day are also what resulted in the birth of Punk, so I used this to study outerwear pieces, including protest jackets and coats as well as Rotten's tartan suits. The contrast of using traditional fabrics in a untraditional way inspired me to focus on building a collection that emphasised on outerwear pieces.
Keeping the rawness of Punk culture, the outerwear pieces have been designed with a core focus on oversized, metal, zip fastenings making them functional pieces. The zip placements throughout the garments were inspired by traditional sportswear coats and leather jackets creating a new modern hybrid. Fabrics are a key focus in my collection in keeping the authenticity of British heritage and sourcing a mixture of deadstock and durable fabric from British mills, combines these key ideas.
DETAIL
Zips are one of the key design features for my design aesthetic, whether they are designed to be used for fastenings or structure. The zips used for BLACKWATCH were sponsored from Lampo Zippers, who mirror the high quality finishings in which is incorporated throughout the garments. Consideration of zip placement throughout my pieces was key in contrasting with my bold silhouettes and tartan checks. It promotes the evolution of the initial sportswear influences juxtaposed with Punk rebellion.
