About Me

Hi, i'm Renade, a graduate from the University of Portsmouth.

Fashion design has been a passion for me from a young age, as time went on i realised that i specialise in textile design. I love being creative and bringing my own style to my designs. I enjoy upcycling clothes transforming them into new garments. I enjoy hand crafted textiles such as embroidery, painting and beading, with the combination of machine textiles.

When staring a new project or collection i tend to incorporate elements of my beliefs, culture or history. This allows me to connect to my work on a deeper level. I believe there should always be a meaning behind a garment or collection as it allow the audience to understand the message behind it.

INSPIRATION

This collection highlights the societal issues which exist due to ant-black racism.

The concept of this collection relates to the issues the black community are facing due to police brutality. Black people are being killed for crimes they have not committed, the police are targeting innocent people. This means a lot to me being a young black woman. This is an ongoing problem and we can only hope for change. My goal is to show the pain black people go through in day to day life. We want justice.

This collection is sustainable and part of this is up-cycled from a second hand tent. The garments are unisex to shown that both men and women face discrimination from the police. This is a streetwear collection to communicate black people can be stopped by the police in any attire and most of the time it is casual clothing.

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

Details included in this collection are screen print, embroidery and fabric plaiting.

This collection has a range of details and textiles to communicate my concept. The details i used was fabric plaiting and fabric chains, this was to relate back to some of the amour used in slavery times. This also signified the force and grip police have on black people when they are being targeted, therefore the placement of the chain was around the neck area as a symbol of black people being in a chokehold. My collection is highly embelished with textiles. The textiles used includes screen printing of powerful words such as "JUSTICE" and "PEACE". Hand prints and the outline of George Floyd's face. Machine embroidery was also used again hand prints and the outline of George Floyd's Face. All the colours used for the textiles were bold to make the concept stand out.
