I am a Womenswear Designer who has a strong eye for colour, fabrications, and overall interest in textile related design. Whilst studying at Bath Spa University, I have been selected to feature in GFW23 Talent of Tomorrow Photoshoot and Drapers Stars of the Future June Article.
My interest for Workwear and film references are core themes throughout most of my work. My approach for design has been guided by developing research in the forms of exploring silhouettes from vintage workwear garments, observational drawing and developing textile samples. In addition, I also have a fond interest for experimentation with both colour and fabrications, that ensure a sense of quality and longevity within my garments.
INSPIRATION
As a film lover, I have always been interested in looking at different genres of film for inspiration in my work. This sparked my initial interest for my collection, leading me to look at the Horror film 'A Nightmare on Elm Street'. More specifically the character of Freddy Krueger and the workwear he wears within the film. As I was interested in workwear, I wanted to expand this further by looking at different silhouettes and garments within farming culture and Western influences such as Cowboy Boots.
Surface detail has always been very influential, so exploring different textiles and details that have stemmed from the influence of Cowboy Boots, has given me the opportunity to develop embroideries. While also combining my fabrics contemporarily, with the use of clashing and texture. To capture the overall aesthetic for my collection, I wanted to embody the attitude of my muse Gwen Stefani specifically in her 90's era, by inhabiting her sense of alternative and playfulness in style.
DETAIL
Photographing my collection 'Freddy's come play', I took inspiration from the cinematography within the film 'A Nightmare on Elm Street'. As this film was a huge influence in my work, I wanted to recreate some of the key moments and embody a sense of lurking and mystery around the garments. This photoshoot aims to show a sense of eeriness, as if Freddy is watching them. However my main objective, using these different angles, was to give the 'watcher' a chance to see different observations of each garment. By highlighting their hidden details and textures from a different angle or light.
