About Me

I’m Shriya a fashion design graduate from Arts University Bournemouth.

Fashion design is Shriya Yoshida-Jain's area of expertise. She is a creative with roots in Japan, India, and the UK. The collection she created honours the culture by fusing her personal connections and historical knowledge on British, Indian, and Japanese history.

I have observed the underrepresentation and underappreciation of my cultures after three years of fashion design studies. These are aspects of which I am immensely proud, and I constantly strive to celebrate them in my work. My passions for design and production will be united to produce compelling work that draws attention to underrepresented aspects of my cultures. I believe it is crucial to produce work that informs people about underrepresented cultures today more than ever.

INSPIRATION

My initial inspiration started with exploring my relationship with my mixed heritage.

The traditions and the rich history of silk in India and Japan have greatly influenced me. I've made it a goal to learn who I am because I've worn traditional silk clothing since a very early age. I have a deeper understanding of this relationship immediately as I began reading about the history of Indian and Japanese silk.

What motivated me to produce the work I have and what keeps motivating me is the underrepresentation and misinterpretation of Japanese and Indian styles and traditions in fashion and film. I believed it was my duty to showcase all the talent, positivity, and creativity that go into making silk.

MY WORK

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

I designed and created my collection based off of stewardesses.

Along with beautiful close-ups of the clothing that highlight the effort, work, and talent that goes into making each piece. An accurate airport and travel destination set was planned by me. I'm hoping that by observing the garments' production, people would have a clearer idea of what a favourable perception of cultural appreciation should include.
