Shuya Lin is a creative specializing in unisex fashion design. Her travels and educational background in China and the UK have contributed to her characteristic design style. Through design, Shuya uses the historical heritage of her hometown and also integrated the explorer's wear, developing an asymmetrical, flexible and detachable design style.
After studying fashion design for 4 years, I try to use design to express my understanding of Chinese culture and the connection between historical heritage and me. During the pandemic, travel was restricted in many ways, and after I experienced cross-border travel myself, I began to think about what such a social environment would bring to everyone. I searched for past photographic works from the City library of my hometown, trying to explore the boundaries of time.
INSPIRATION
How will we define ‘BOUNDARIES’ in the post-pandemic era? Is it a geographical boundary, a time and space boundary, or a cultural boundary?
Sourced from the city library in my hometown, I combined my silhouette and source pieces inspiration through an analysis of the historical photography, and at the same time, I wanted to keep the variability and gender neutrality of the Cheongsam, two features throughout my design. And in the process of research and tracking, I also integrated the instability of geographical space. I combined the trend of casual wear in the city with polar and marine explorers and developed a detachable garment.
DETAIL
Another feature that runs through all the garments in this collection is the variable wearing method, I hope that my expression of ‘UNSTABLE’ will give the wearer more possibility.
