About Me

Hello, my name is Sofia Sardelli and I'm a Fashion graduate from BCU.

I am a Fashion Design student who specialises in menswear. I enjoy creating weird and wonderful concepts based on abstract artists and building a collection around a celebration of their work. I personally find that I can relate to abstract artists, because I can appreciate that art takes form in many different and bizarre ways.

It is only since recent projects that I have discovered my interests lie in menswear fashion, I enjoy the possibilities and directions men’s apparel can create. I have learnt a lot since designing for men and I enjoy how tangible and diverse menswear clothing can be. Personally, designing for men has become a core part of my identity as a designer and going forward into the future I would like to explore many different sides to this avenue in fashion.

INSPIRATION

Learning from The Absurd

The inspiration for this collection is from an abstract artist named William Kentridge. He created 30 prints depicting a bizarre short story from the eighteenth century about a Russian major who had lost his nose. The story is about a nose that taunts the Russian major and acts as if it has a mind of its own creating this comical short story. However, it is a metaphorical passage about how we can sometimes feel divided against ourselves, self-sabotaging and becoming our own worst enemies.

Since the Collection is based on a Sargent Major, I wanted to incorporate an element of uniformed utilitarianism and a military theme throughout this assemble. I decided to use a variation of greens and khaki to convey a military and ceremonial look. I also researched detailing’s like epaulettes, I even resourced real authentic buttons used on the uniforms of the Household Cavalry regiment, which embellish my coats and jackets to make this collection as real and authentic as possible.

MY WORK

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

In a way we all have a nose separated from our physical body taunting us about our insecurities.

Learning from the Absurd teaches us to forego our internalised anxieties and stop chasing our own negative thoughts. This collection should install faith into those who view it, knowing that your only limitations are the ones you set yourself anything can happen, therefore anything can be accomplished.

" I believe that we can all truly learn from the absurd".
