About Me
Hi there, i'm Sophie. A geek who likes gaming, snacks and fashion.
In my free time I like to spend time with my close friends playing games and hanging out doing our hobbies together, from watching movies and playing games to building and painting miniature model armies. There is nothing wrong with being different and I have never understood why people try so hard to fit in or follow trends.
After graduation I plan on working full time on my Etsy business, Scheming Goldfish, the University of Portsmouth helped me set this up during my SEP (Self Employed Placement) gap year. I plan on launching my own clothes and t-shirt designs as well as selling at more comic-con/convention events. I have already received offers from local independent businesses in my area about stocking my merchandise and I will be approaching others myself. I really enjoyed my SEP and can’t wait to grow this venture even more.
INSPIRATION
Combining my love of gaming, technology and design to share my vision of a digital future.
I have always been interested in technology and character design. I took this final year of my degree as the chance to mix my wide range of skills and interests to make my dream collection for my digital avatar, Alaith. Japanese art, culture and yokai lore has been my inspiration for my garment designs and illustrations. If my garments were made up I feel you would be able to find them in shops between the Shinjuku, Harajuku and Shibuya districts of Tokyo.
My inspiration comes from a variety of media within pop culture, anime, books, films and games. Ready Player One, written by Ernest Cline to later be directed by Steven Spielberg has been one of the biggest contributors and an incredible motivation throughout this whole project as well as the anime Summer Wars directed by Mamoru Hosoda. Both the films match with my idea of what the future may look like as everything becomes more digital.

In the digital world you don't have to always design for the human form.
In the digital world society is gradually moving towards and with the advancements of technology, users are becoming more outlandish; aliens, monsters, fantasy creatures, we could be living inside a video game! I want to seize this opportunity and be one step ahead discovering how to make garments to embrace this future. To share my vision of the future of fashion with others I wanted to do something different, an interactive experience, I have made a VR level using Unreal Engine and assets from the gaming community to help others understand how fashion CAN exist within online gaming communities. Metaverse: In futurism and science fiction, the metaverse is a hypothetical iteration of the internet as a single, universal and immersive virtual world that is facilitated by the use of virtual reality and augmented reality headsets. Have you ever watched Ready Player One or even read the novel? Their metaverse, The Oasis, is where society is heading and how fashion will evolve to the next step.
