About Me

Taja Freser, a haute couture designer skilled in 3D development.

A designer, pattern cutter and developer with a specific focus on advanced technical and creative construction. Through my love of technicality and detailing, I have gained a comprehensive knowledge of couture finishings and sewing techniques which I have explored through my work across both mens and womens wear.

Historical fashion plays a large part in my research. From materiality to technique and silhouette, I marry my contemporary interpretation of these genres into dynamic silhouettes which incorporate my love of storytelling and drama within clothing. I greatly enjoy realizing my designs into wearable garments which showcase my advanced skills in technical garment and detail development. Through mentorship with jewellery designers Yunus & Eliza, I have also been able to expand my understanding and development of fine jewellery from sketch to final piece.

INSPIRATION

Beauty and Horror of Death

I believe in the balance between reality and imagination. To work with it and create it we need to look into the real world and within ourselves to find differences that we can join to make a perfect symphony of bad and good, interesting and boring, to make new things that people have never seen before.

The journey of my final collection started through questioning a way of seeing the past, the horror and beauty of life. Trying to capture feelings of both, capturing the contradictory emotions through designing bold and defined garments. As life is constantly changing, so do we. Always learning and evolving as fashion does too. That is why I look to the past, finding inspiration there and taking its greatness, transforming it, and moving it on.

MY WORK

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

Traditional couture techniques and modern approach

Alongside my in depth research in to sleeve shapes and structures, I have also focused on couture techniques to elevate my garments. Handcrafting structured paddings for base of the sleeves, draping shapes and exploring creative cutting. By using different pleating and gathering techniques, I explored creating volume in creative, innovative and luxurious ways. Alongside traditional hand sewing and draping, I have also worked with new technologies and ways to fuse these techniques together. Laser cutting and etching allows me to create unique shapes and surfaces to transform my historical reference points.
