Taylor Branney is an innovative womenswear designer who specialises in both pattern cutting and print design. Colour, texture and print combinations are used throughout the design process as a solid foundation for concept, sampling and design development.
Throughout my final year of studying fashion design, I explored ancient Egyptian garments juxtaposed with linens, heavier denims and trimmings. Two fully styled looks were constructed by endless cording, pleating and printed textiles. My print process began as I started to build up a floral print, that was executed by a range of layering multiple screen prints as well as digital. Egyptian flowers and fertile crops surrounding the river Nile influenced not only a variety of vibrant printed garments throughout my collection, but also inject a well-balanced use of colour and texture.
INSPIRATION
From the very beginning of the reign of pharaoh Cleopatra VII. The ancient Ptolemaic queen is known for her ruthlessness, alluring charm and most of all mystery. From the river Nile, golden sands and ancient Egyptian garments such as, The Kalasiris dress and the Shendyt kilt. The 'QUEEN OF THE NILE' collection is womenswear Spring/Summer containing and variety of lightweight pleated fabrics, juxtaposed with elements of 'The denim trucker jacket'.
The glitz and glamorous take on Egyptian history is a huge inspiration throughout this collection. Not only because of the dramatic silhouette, endless embellishment and in particular, the costume details. I extracted ideas of developing smocking, fabric manipulation and pleating from this historical take on the Egyptian queen and created my own unique collection containing a combination of dramatic cording, free flowing fabrics and vivid floral prints.
