About Me

Hi, I'm Tegan, a fashion design graduate from Leeds Arts University

As a womenswear designer, my main goal is to design clothes that women are inspired by. I want to make clothes that make the wearer feel confident in a way they haven't before, whether by wearing beautiful fabric and bold silhouettes or simply viewing my designs and feeling confident in their skin, combining art with fashion.

I have always been drawn to oversized silhouettes and out-of-ordinary ways of designing, such as using a duvet to make a coat and other interesting materials in my work. I am passionate about what I believe in, and fashion helps give me a voice to express it. I love exploring different kinds of textiles, such as embroidery, felting and quilting. I am also interested in combining different art forms into fashion, such as ceramics, broadening my design capabilities.

INSPIRATION

Everyone is perfect as they are

“Perfect Bodies” is a 4-outfit womenswear collection dedicated to all the glorious women who have ever felt ashamed of their bodies for any reason. This collection shows that regardless of shape, colour, or age, your body is perfect as it is, and no one gets to tell you that you’re not beautiful. This collection was inspired by my own journey of self-love with my body. It was inspired by all the so-called flaws women have and went against that completely to make you feel sexy and empowered.

These garments were created to explore the taboo aspect of a women's body that is not typically seen publicly. I did this by designing undergarments that highlighted the rolls on the body instead of hiding them and used textiles to symbolise the vast textures on the body. The beautiful colours of women inspired the colour pallet, using red as a vocal colour to symbolise menstrual blood.

DETAIL

Inspiration behind creating ceramic vagina buttons

For this collection, I designed and created ceramic buttons for my coat. I got inspired to make these as I wanted a range of textures and materials in my collection to symbolise diversity in the textures of a woman's body. I had never done ceramics before; the experience was extremely inspirational as it opened my eyes to a new way of making fashion. The buttons were made using terracotta, and I made dozens of samples before I found the one I wanted. I decided on the buttons being vaginas because there is a taboo idea about women's genitalia, so I wanted to create something that showed that they were not embarrassing or shameful and instead a beautiful body part.
