Travis Williams is a plus-size model, image creator and director from London. His inspiration comes from music and movement, and creating art that has impact on people. Whilst studying he has been modelling and directing his own personal projects which led him to supporting on other photoshoots with styling, directing, and posing.
Growing up I struggled with loving myself and this stopped me from seeing how amazing I am. I didn’t realise how damaging it was to not see people like me co-existing in places that I aspired to be in. That is why I created TRA.VIS, to provide the right representation of different people and bodies to offer them a platform to voice their opinions and views. I am incredibly proud of how the magazine has turned out the reactions that It has received. I have a keen interest in image creation, directing and styling. I want to create work that is relatable and empowers the viewers.
INSPIRATION
Travis Williams, the Creator, and Instigator of the magazine, kickstarts the empowerment process by articulating the challenges he experienced in his own upbringing, which was the baseline inspiration. The inaugural issue looks through the eyes of black creatives who express themselves in alternative ways. The editorials are candid, expressive, and inspirational, trail blazing new pathways through which those sitting outside the norm can find care, joy, representation, and validation.
For decades magazines have dictated the direction of societal fashion and provided cultural acceptance. TRA.VIS magazine focuses on forging new pathways, opening doors of representation and empowering readers to act with transformational self-love. Issue one introduces a broad range of people who come together with a passion for inclusivity as the connecting bond.
DETAIL
Throughout the project everyone involved in the photoshoots were asked questions. These questions played a huge part in what TRA.VIS embodies – individuality, self-love, and cultural acceptance. #2PROUDOFME campaign was created to bring to awareness the importance of being proud of who you are. Sometimes we forget to praise ourselves for those small wins. We don’t realise how great we are doing; even when sometimes it feels like nothing is getting better. We need to appreciate ourselves and our uniqueness. Your journey, our journey is different but one thing for sure is – we are proud of where we have come from and where we are now. I created this campaign in the hope that the participants involved can inspire people to not allow the opinions of others and situations to stop them from being who they are. I hope that by watching this campaign, you are inspired to keep pushing and by hearing each person’s story it will helps you overcome any struggles you are going through.
