Zara is a visual communicator who specialises in art direction, graphic design and content creation - with a particular focus on the fashion and beauty industries. She is inspired by unapologetic femininity, and has a personal commitment to empower women and create community through her work.
After recognising a notable gap in the market, Zara created 'Once Girls' magazine for her final major project. A publication which aimed at to act as a source of comfort, helping young girls (aged 13-17) navigate their formative years. Zara noticed that distinct lack of media catered towards young girls and wanted to change this, ensuring teenage girls feel recognised and supported. ‘By Gen-Z, For Gen-Z’; Once Girls aims to act as an ‘older sister’ to it’s readers - providing stunning visuals, relatable articles and a safe community which allows readers to connect.
INSPIRATION
Zara's work has always been inspired by unapologetic femininity and the power of community. Through art direction - she hopes to uplift women and celebrate the unity found in their collective experiences. For her final major project, Zara decided to place this focus on young women (aged 13-17) - noticing how their needs are often neglected in modern media.
Although the topic of girlhood is frequently discussed in the zeitgeist, it is most often done through the lens of an adult - this results in imagery that is not suitable for those actually experiencing girlhood. Zara hopes to add more to the conversation, providing teenage girls with stunning visuals that they can enjoy and genuinely connect with.
