Zoha Taqi is a Pakistani creative who specializes in fashion publication, creative direction and graphic design. She is the editor in chief of her own magazine called 'The Local Feed' that focuses on and elevates POC creatives around the world by interviewing them and helping them network.
In recent years, it has become increasingly clear to me how important community is in every aspect of life. For creatives of color, building a community of like minded individuals who also look like you can be a tough thing sometimes. This is why I created 'The Local Feed'. By combining my love for journalism, graphic design and creative direction, I was able to provide a platform for creatives of color to safely share their stories and to help further preserve their history.
INSPIRATION
Growing up I have always felt a special connection to the city I've grown up in, Abu Dhabi. It's such a peaceful city with people from every walk of life. Always being surrounded by diversity, I immediately noticed how there was a lack of diversity in publication and honestly, most popular media forms. The creatives in my community didn't have many opportunities for them to expand their network globally or have a well documented career by local journalists.
This was because there simply weren't many art focused publications in our city, better yet country. By realizing this gap in the market, I immediately got to work to not only help the community but also help preserve our collective history.
DETAIL
The theme of my issue is ‘Change’ and to represent that I chose to style the same model with 4 drastically different looks to convey the message of how we may go through phases of change all our life but at our core we will always remain the same. I creative directed the photoshoot by making a presentation that detailed everything for every look from makeup, hair, accessories and even down to the poses the model could use for reference. As co-stylist I also personally went out and got everything necessary for the photoshoot from clothes, props, makeup and accessories. I even diy’ed some elements of the shoot for optimal visuals, like bringing a pink balloon instead of bubblegum for the bubblegum pictures. By including the behind the scenes pictures of the photoshoot I hope people can see how much fun we had shooting for the magazine cover and how much love and care we put into every detail.
