YKK® was founded in 1934 by Tadao Yoshida in Japan and has since grown into a global manufacturing company.

Since opening in 2015, the YKK® London Showroom, located in the heart of Shoreditch, has become a crucial source of inspiration for the future of the UK fashion industry. Visitors to 154 Commercial Street are able to speak to world-leading fashion experts for advice, guidance, and inspiration for fastening solutions, often resulting in bespoke handcrafted products being created at the showroom suited to individual requirements. The showroom encourages and enables designers to dream big and achieve their ambitions through a core understanding of the different elements required in the design process.

Creating the YKK® London Showroom

The YKK® London Showroom, drawing inspiration from YKK®'s industrial roots, brings its manufacturing expertise to the heart of Shoreditch. This space seamlessly blends Japanese precision with British fashion, showcasing the works of fashion designers Kei Kagami and Martina Spetlova.

YKK® London Showroom X Graduate Fashion Foundation

YKK® has long been committed to nurturing emerging design talent, as evident through our workshops, exhibition displays, and ongoing support for students and graduates. Over the years, we've collaborated on various projects and served as a sponsor and partner for events like Graduate Fashion Week.

For the seventh consecutive year, YKK® sponsors the YKK® Accessories Award, seeking students who demonstrate creativity, originality, and a mastery of YKK® products in their designs. We're on the lookout for individuals who push boundaries and show potential to make a significant impact in the fashion industry. Whether it's in millinery, shoes, bags, belts, or jewellery, we value modern, directional approaches to the accessories arena.

Celebrating Creativity

For the last six years, the winners of the YKK® Accessories Award have been Megan Evans from the University of South Wales (2017), Essi Pekhuri from Nottingham Trent University (2018), Dimitri Gabellier from De Montfort (2019), Ella Hall from the University of Brighton (2020), Natasha Finlay from the University of Northampton (2021), Ruixin Wang of Ravensbourne University (2022), and last year's winner, Harriet Hooper from Leeds Arts University.
